Taste the sweetness of life with Young Prisms’ shimmering return track, ‘Honeydew’.
Back after a 10 year hiatus, San Francisco’s Young Prisms are ready to delight anew with an upcoming album, Drifter. Despite their dreamy sound, the album aims to bring its listeners down from the clouds, ready to explore the tensions and tangles of everyday experience. Sharing a taste of what’s to come, the band has also released the album’s lead single, ‘Honeydew’. Accompanied by an art-house inspired music video, it is an invitation to fall back in love with their music, as if reuniting with a long lost friend.
Layers of glorious shoegaze descend down like shimmery clouds, cocooning the listener in a cosy blanket of warm nostalgia. Filled with crunchy reverb and licks of echoing guitar, Honeydew’ is as equally at home in the sun-kissed suburban streets as it is in the neon-lit city scape, creating a kind of atmosphere that is cinematic in its reach. Based on the memory of vocalist Stefanie Hodapp’s grandmother and her love of honeydew melon, the track speaks of finding comfort in the here and now, regardless of what others might think.
‘Honeydew’ is just the kind of all-enveloping shoegaze you want to sink your toes into, only to then fully plunge into the dreamy mellowness.
